Founder Casey Arnaud (pictured left) launched Little Gypsies in 2007 after travelling abroad to celebrate the sale of her eponymous body range, Arnaud, to Stila Cosmetics Group. It was after one of many travel adventures with her then infant daughter that the idea to capture the richness of travel for kids was born.

“I was so proud to see how Sequoia came home with a greater understanding of different cultures, people, and the environment,” the now mother-of-two little girls happily recalls. “I realised that not all families had the opportunity to share this experience with their kids.

"I was determined to design an easily accessible, online children's store that offered beautiful pieces with real meaning; items that were made with love, that told a story, and were both socially and environmentally responsible," Casey explains from Little Gypsies' head office just north of Byron Bay in Northern NSW, Australia.

“Like a true gypsy, my wanderlust has led me to exotic locations like Laos, Indonesia, India, Mexico, Peru, Spain, Africa, Russia, Vietnam and, of course, Australia," she continues. " I look for beautifully made, fun, playful pieces that capture the essence of each little community."

Former Arnaud publicist, media professional and long-term friend, Veda Dante became a business partner in 2009. Also based near Byron Bay, Veda believes that in order to capture children's curiosity you need to fully engage their attention and their imagination.

“For example, we have a game that teaches kids how to say hello in different languages, a puzzle that outlines the shape of each continent, and hand-crocheted finger puppets shaped like iconic Australian animals," Veda explains.

The essence of Little Gypsies is to support businesses that have a public mission to help communities and their local environment. Casey and Veda are especially focused on supporting neighbourhood and Fair Trade projects that help create a better life for marginalised and underprivileged people.

“Three percent from every Little Gypsies sale is donated to Green Gecko, a Cambodian-based project that aims to improve the lives of street children living in Siem Reap, by empowering these children with skills, care and support to enable them to break the begging cycle," Veda says with pride.

"At Green Gecko, the children can eat a hot lunch, attend English classes, feel secure, play with other kids, get a hug, have a shower, and receive medical attention. Take a look at www.greengeckoproject.org to see why they inspire Casey and I so much.”
