Located in Southeast Asia, this landlocked, thickly forested country achieved independence from French rule in 1949. The Lao economy is heavily reliant on investment and trade with its neighbours, most notably Thailand, Vietnam and China. Sadly, more than ten percent of the population live below the poverty line, earning less than AUS$2 a day. Laos children's art consists of true-to-life designs that capture its unique cultural traditions. |
