Located in Central America, Guatemala is considered a biodiversity hotspot thanks
to its diverse geography. The people are known for their brightly coloured, yarn-based textiles, which are woven into clothing, furnishings and fabric. Although Spanish is considered the official language, there are 21 distinct Mayan languages spoken, especially in rural areas. In fact, the original name 'Guatemala' is indigenous and thought to mean "land of the trees" in the Maya-Toltec language.
