product info
Stunning Indian indigo floral block printed artwork. The mounted fabric was crafted by a family of 9th generation Ajrakh block rrinters in the desert region of Gujarat, India. The traditions of using colours derived from nature – indigo, turmeric, madder root, iron and red mud – and then hand-carved using teak printing blocks are still practised today by this family. During the creation of your piece, the fabric may have been printed, dyed and washed up to 20 times. This method of block printing is sadly diminishing. This fabric was purchased directly from the family who printed and stretched it onto an artist's canvas to be displayed as a decorative wall tile. By purchasing one of these pieces you will be supporting the continuation of an ancient Indian craft and assisting a small-scale producer. Includes a strung wire on back for direct wall hanging, or box style of canvas allows it to be sat upright on a shelf.
